Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering for your tooth. A crown is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, and strength. Dr. Carol Halloran may recommend a crown to do the following:

Before placing a crown, our dentist may take a few X-rays to check your tooth roots and the surrounding bone. If there is extensive decay or if there is risk of infection or injury to the pulp, root canal therapy may be performed before placing the crown. To prepare the tooth for a crown, our dentist will remove a small amount of tooth enamel. This will allow room for the crown to fit over the tooth. An impression of your tooth is made so a crown can be constructed. When the crown is complete, our dentist will place it in your mouth to check the fit. After any adjustments are made, the crown is permanently cemented in place.
